New Nephew, New Blankie

For those of you following along, I knit baby blankets for my nephews - and I have a lot of nephews. Oli, Ian, and Miles have all gotten their blankies, and now it's Miles' new brother, Dylan's, turn.

I used the Once There Was a Baby Blanket pattern by Caitlin ffrench (she's the designer/knitter for the show Once Upon a Time - what an awesome job!), knit in Spud & Chloe Outer "Bubble" colorway. I had originally planned on this blanket to be for Addy, but I just wasn't feeling it. When my brother and his wife announced they were pregnant, I knew this blanket would be perfect for a January baby, so this became Dylan's blankie. So, sorry, Dylan, that your blanket is sort of an afterthought hand-me-down. Get used to it, buddy, it comes with being the youngest. (Just ask your dad - he came home from the hospital in a blanket that was embroidered "Elizabeth.")

I do love this blanket - so soft and squishy, it can also be used as a playmat. Here it is blocking after I finished knitting it - blocking wasn't really necessary, but I thought washing the dog hair out was.
Baby blanket blocked and drying!

Despite the fact it took me months to finish it, the blanket really is a quick knit - size 17 needles and bulky yarn. The garter stitch looks great with the simple feather and fan border.

The ribbon is entirely optional - but how could I resist a ribbon with hedgehogs, owls, and squirrels?

Hi,
Found your blog via Holla knits. I love your OUAT baby blanket. So pretty in the light blue and the ribbon trim that you chose to make it your own...I was obsessed with this blanket and had to make one too...
